About the event
Flashover Recognition & Survival
Course Description:
This course is broken into two sections. The morning will consist of classroom with demonstrations on fire behavior using the Max Fire Box I & II. The afternoon will consist of time in the flashover unit along with additional practical skills demonstrations using the Thermal Imaging Cameras.
The classroom portion will review Fire Behavior, Flow Path, Door Control, and Control. Firefighters are also taught to recognize the signs of an impending flashover, provide techniques for possibly escaping an impending flashover, with the goal of saving firefighters from injury and death. Key points of the system include incipient phase of the fire, fire growth, smoke production, high and low pressure zones, thermal feedback, rollover and flashover.
Firefighters' lives may depend on the ability to recognize the signs of an impending flashover and being prepared to take action quickly and effectively. Many firefighters view flashover training as one of the most intense training of their career. Repetition of flashover training increases and stabilizes the Firefighter's knowledge and skills to recognize and handle this specific fire scenario.
